CII Value-Based Care Pilot - Ongoing

Problem Statement

There has been a tendency to advocate for an increase in health service volumes at the expense of prioritizing quality in lower-middle income countries.

Activity Approach

Developing a methodology for assessing the needs of health-system stakeholders; designing a model with patients, providers, and payers that responds to those needs; and developing an operational plan for a pilot.

Applying that methodology to co-design a value-based care pilot in partnership with actual stakeholders in India or South Africa.

Activity Outputs

  • Design and launch pilots with different payer-provider health systems in India and / or South Africa to demonstrate the potential of financing models rooted in value-based care
  •  Design a pilot in India or South Africa and document it in the form of a proposal to a payer-provider partnership as well as for potential donors
  • Codify the methodology as a publicly available knowledge product / report

Impact to USAID

The results of the final report will allow CII to determine if value-based care provides comparable or better health outcomes to more traditional service-based payment models at a more affordable cost point for payers and patients.
