USAID India’s COVID-19 PSE Accelerator - Ongoing

Problem Statement

The state and national governments in India need support develop ways to accelerate private-sector engagement (PSE) through implementing partners (IPs) for collaboration and support on key healthcare demands in India related to the COVID-19 emergency.

Activity Approach

Phase I: BCG developed a high-level PSE strategy; created an IP enablement strategy for PSE and supported “quick-wins” by IPs.

Phase II: BCG detailed operational plans for Big Wins identified with USAID and IPs; developed IP to close PSE capacity gaps and modify PSE engagement as needed; supported Big Wins with IPs.

Activity Outputs

Phase 1:

  • $150k funding for environmental surveillance program for COVID-19 in Bangalore
  • Private sector partnership and advisory for environmental surveillance program

Phase II:

  • Administered 1.2M vaccine doses across ~3000 villages, 30+ districts of 4 states,
  • Co-organized a roadshow with 20+ private organizations in partnership with AMCHAM to support vaccination;
  • Mobilized ~$3.5M funds for vaccination
  • Developed Patient Outreach Platform (digital health) to manage COVID-19 vulnerable patients (e.g., NCDs)
  • Designed an early warning system to cover a range of environmental & health conditions with private diagnostic labs

Impact to USAID

USAID will have tested and validated tools for accelerated private-sector engagement using existing and new IPs during health emergencies.
